A Joint Letter from Butler County School Leaders: The Need for Balanced Property Tax Reform

At Ross Local School District, we are committed to being transparent with our families, staff, and community members about the realities of school funding and the long-term implications for public education in Ohio.
Like many across our community, we recognize the need for property tax reform. Families, including our own, are feeling the burden of increased property valuations, and we understand the growing concern. But as your local school district, we also have a responsibility to speak up when proposals for reform risk long-term harm to public schools, and ultimately the students and families that we are dedicated to serving.
That’s why today, we are joining Superintendents and Treasurers from every public school district in Butler County to share a joint letter about what’s really happening with state funding in Ohio. The letter outlines our shared concerns: while the state of Ohio is backing away from the Fair School Funding Plan and has been shifting more responsibility onto local taxpayers for decades, proposals for property tax reform could completely undercut the public school system that 80% of Ohio's children rely on everyday.
We believe property tax reform is needed—but it must be balanced. It must account for the true cost of educating all students and honor the state’s constitutional duty to fairly fund public schools.
We invite all Ross families and community members to read this letter and join us in advocating for a funding system that supports both our schools and our taxpayers. You can do so by sharing this letter and by reaching out to your representatives.
Please read the letter attached.
Thank you for your continued partnership. Together, we can work toward solutions that serve all Ohioans.
